The Power of Words: Lessons from the Ramayana
Unwilling Laxman left the post, driven by venomous words of Sita. Demon Rāvan who was waiting for such a chance drew near ashram in garb of renunciate-orange robes, tuft of hair, sacred thread, wooden sandals, staff & water pot.
Like a pall of darkness advancing to swallow the evening sky vacant of Sun & Moon, he advanced chanting Vedic mantras on his way to abduct Sita, left unprotected by Rām & Laxman. Winds hushed in silence & river Godavari stilled her rapid waters, such was fear of him.
Sita sat alone sobbing. He burnt Sita with his unholy looks thro’ sanyasi robes that disguised him but only thinly. Seeing her flawless complexion he froze & his jaw dropped. He had never seen such exquisite beauty & noble perfection.
Recognizing Subtle Cues: How Words Reflect Thoughts
He said-Never have my eyes been blessed with such a sight in all worlds, your form resembles molten gold of 1008 carats. Your eyes, face, smile and undefinable grace have stolen my senses.
Sita was taken aback by these unseemly words.
