“The good and the pleasant come to a man and the thoughtful mind turns around them and distinguishes. The wise choose out the good from the pleasant, but the dull soul chooses the pleasant rather than the getting of his good and its having.”
In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna refers to the paths of “Sreyas” and “Preyas“, which are two competing paths. While Sreyas can lead to the ultimate happiness, it can be a bit boring or unpleasant in the beginning. Preyas on the other hand provides instant happiness but eventually leads to nowhere. Shreyas is something good for the growth of the Atman which ultimately leads to nihshreyas, the perfect happiness. Every decision in our lives can be based on these two and the final choice is ours really!!
