For a higher🔼cause☝🏻
Rāvan said-Mārich I’ve come here to seek your help but you cross me, rebuke me & shame me in my own eyes with harsh words. I’m not here to take your counsel for my plan but to execute it at any cost. So beware giving me any advice
Take the form of golden deer & wander about the abode of Rām, keeping within view of Sita. Deceive her & lure away Rām & Laxman far from their abode. Sita is sure to importune Rām to catch the golden deer & as he is far away cry-Ah Sita/Laxman in Ram’s tone. She will not lose a moment to send Laxman to help his brother & then in absence of both, I’m free to carry her away. Serve my purpose else be ready to die
The haughty commands of Rāvan didn’t daunt Mārich & he still tried to dissuade Rāvan from his terrible plan. At last he said-I don’t waste a thought for myself but I grieve to think of hopeless extermination of you, your forces, wives & children. My life is forfeited to Rām & instead of dying at your hands,it will be glorious & auspicious to die at the hands of Rām, the supreme Lord himself
This is a huge learning about one’s character-Even in losing, lose for a higher cause & making an attempt to do something which establishes higher principle, moral or good for people at large. In business too lose gracefully and your customer will remember
mātrā-sparśās tu kaunteya śītoṣṇa-sukha-duḥkha-dāḥ
āgamāpāyino ’nityās tāṁs titikṣasva bhārata
O son of Kuntī, the nonpermanent appearance of happiness and distress, and their disappearance in due course, are like the appearance and disappearance of winter and summer seasons. They arise from sense perception, O scion of Bharata, and one must learn to tolerate them without being disturbed
