Fault in Vision in the Ramayana

Ravana’s Rage at Sita

Rāvan, mad with rage at well deserved taunts of Sita, struck his palms together & assumed form huge as mountain, cried – Girl my strength, courage & achievements hasn’t reached your ears. I cast a loving eye & you speak harshly. Looks like you’ve taken leave of your senses.

The Terrible Form of Ravana

He then stood in his native shape – eyes rivalling Sun in splendor & fire, armed from head to foot, adorned with priceless garments & jewels, resembling huge cloud banks. He put away peaceful form of renunciate he came in & assumed terrible form as of Lord of destruction.

Ravana’s Proposal to Sita

If you aspire to be the wife of the best & foremost in creation, then accept my suit as I’m in every way fit to be your husband. Turn your heart away from mere mortal Rām, who is shamefully exiled from his kingdom & is an object of contempt for all. An idiot who at words of a woman, left kingdom, happiness, friends & dwells now in forest.

Ravana’s Fault in Vision and Arrogance

At worst, Sita deserved love, respect & kindness, she showed to Rāvan but the wicked monster was dead to such noble instincts & was mad with lust & passion.

Ramayana Lesson on Selfish Desires

Seeing others through’ colored glasses, paints all in the same color & envisions them as objects of fruition. It blinds us to even not look at good others have done & our selfish desires push us to the depths of shameful ignominy.

Let’s be aware of such behavior.
