Vasudevan Raghavan

Vasudevan Raghavan is a software professional living in Frankfurt and has several accomplishments to his credit.

Vasudevan has a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT-BHU and an MBA from IIM-Bangalore. Born in Kumbakonam and brought up in Chennai, in a Sri Vaishnava family, Vasudevan had a fairly early initiation into the world of Ithihaasa and Puraanas through his mother and grew up reading Srimad Bhagawatham, Mahabharatha and other Puraanaas as his pastime reading. His schooling at Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Adayar also had a major early influence on his traditional leanings, wherein he learnt Sanskrit from very competent teachers, both as part of the class-room curriculum and also through a lot of Shlokas that were taught in the school.

It was perhaps due to the influence at the Sri Sankara School that Vasudevan had developed an interest in Advaitha Siddhaantha at a fairly young age. Even as a teenager, he had developed an interest to read the Srimad Bhagawad Geetha.

Vasudevan moved to Germany on employment related reasons in 2002 and after living for a few years in Stuttgart and Darmstadt, has been living in Frankfurt since 2006. In Frankfurt, Vasudevan and his wife Malathi were instrumental in starting the Paaraayanam Frankfurt group in 2010, which has now grown into a large extended family consisting of over 50 to 60 families who meet regularly and chant, among other Shlokas, Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam. The Paaraayanam Frankfurt group is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary and had recently hosted Sri Dushyanth Sridhar to deliver a lecture on the glory of Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam.

In 2013, Vasudevan met his spiritual Guru Swami Paramarthananda who lives in Chennai and through this introduction, was able to deepen his knowledge of the Vaideeka Sampradayam, Advaitha Vedanta and other related topics like Bhagawad Geetha, Upanishads, Brahma Sutra and other advanced Granthas. Swami Paramarthananda is the direct disciple of Swami Dayananda Saraswathi who in turn is a direct disciple of Swami Chinmayananda, the founder of the Chinmaya Mission.

In 2013, Vasudevan started teaching Srimad Bhagawad Geetha to a small set of audience in Frankfurt and this service is being continued till date. After teaching the complete Bhagawad Geetha over a 4-year period, Vasudevan continued to teach that same group other Granthas like Aathma Bodha, Tattva Bodha and is currently teaching Viveka Choodamani. Meanwhile, in 2017, the second batch of teaching Bhagawad Geetha was started and this is also going on in parallel. All classes conducted by Vasudevan are through conference calls, thus enabling people living anywhere to join in and benefit from the learning.

Among other spiritual activities that Vasudevan is involved in are the annual conduct of Ganesha Chathurthi and the annual Upakarma ceremony, which are well attended by the traditionally inclined Grihasthas and Brahmacharis. Apart from these public celebrations, Vasudevan also facilitates the conduct of private functions such as Punyaavaachanam, Aayush Homam, Seemantham, Griha Pravesham and other private Homams such as Sudarshana Homam, Ganapathy Homam and Sathyanarayana Pooja.
