Thyagaraja Aradhana

Saint Thyagaraja was a musical prodigy and one of the greatest composers of music in South India. He wrote his first composition at the age of of just 13. He then went on to reach great heights and is considered as one of the Trinities of Carnatic Music.

He has made immense contributions to Carnatic music and his compositions are rich in devotional & philosophical content. They are noted for their superior structure, superb handling of the ragalakshanas and the apt choice of ragas and words. The Guru Sishya Parampara which is being preserved and practiced even to this day, is another contribution from the great Saint.

As a mark of respect for Saint Thyagaraja, Carnatic musicians from all over the world gather at Thiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur, every year to sing the Pancharatna Kritis. This is conducted on the Pushya Bahula Panchami Day of the This year marks the 173rd Anniversary of this event. Many music lovers from around the world have been organising such an event at their own places like Cleveland, Mauritius, Laos,etc. making this a global phenomenon.  

With the growing interest in the Carnatic music, this year the digital video sharing platform, YouTube has decided to join in the celebrations at Thiruvaiyaru, giving people across the world to be a part of the festivities.
