Successful Living – A Piece of Cake

Women today are not satisfied with conventional roles of home making. They would like to play diverse roles both at home and outside in the work environment and society. Some women have preset aspirations, but others may not have a clue. It does not matter. Being already a super sleuth, facilitator, coordinator and organizer for the family, it will be a matter of time for you to figure what you would want for yourself. Here are some easy steps which you can practice to have a more meaningful and satisfactory life.

The first step to becoming successful is to start dreaming today. Think and dream about what you want to become. In the famous words of Michelle Obama,” There is no limit to what we as women can achieve”.  The visual image of the dream creates positivity and feel good feeling which motivates us to work for it. If you find it difficult to dream today go back to your child hood and think what you wanted to become and whether that holds good for today. My friend wanted to be a dancer always. So now at the age of fifty she is learning dance to perform. It is never late to dream.

Yes! I have my dreams and aspirations ready. So now what? Start making short term goals to reach the bigger one. Attainment and fulfillment of short term goals inspires us to do move towards our ultimate dream and goal.

Be passionate about your work. Loving your work makes it fun and joyful. When you love your work, you will be creative and good at it. If it is something you have dreamt it is going to be easy to be passionate.

Educate yourself to the skill set needed for your particular job. There will always be plenty of opportunities around you. Make use of the opportunities provided in your work place for the same.

Persevere in whatever you do. Be patient when things are not going your way. Trust yourself and find alternate solutions to make the situation all right. You should live up to the saying, “No matter how you feel, show up and never give up.” Failure is never an option.

Believe in yourself. Have confidence in yourself that you will be able to attain the goals and aspirations you have planned for. Self-confidence develops through effective practice of skills and realizing the objectives. Practice makes you perfect. There is no short cut to hard work.

Have a mentor. Choose a mentor who can inspire and guide you with his or her professional expertise and knowledge. Good mentors will guide you in making meaningful choices in your personal and professional lives. The mentor should have your trust and confidence.

Exercise regularly. Our body is our temple. You can use any form of exercise that you are comfortable and happy practicing. In a sound body rests a sound mind. Regular exercise will not only improve our health, it will also boost creativity and manage stress. If you are not comfortable exercising you can commune with nature in any way that befits you.

Schedule regular spouse time. Plan short getaways with your spouse to keep your marital relationship healthy. You can also keep scheduled time to relax and relate with your spouse. Our time with the spouse makes life invigorating.

Find time to spend with your family and friends. Try to have one meal together with all family members. You can share the most important experiences with the other members and stay connected despite your busy schedules.

Practice meditation whenever possible. Simple meditation where you mindfully sit at a calm place and visualize a scenery that is very relaxing helps you to destress after a long day at work.

Surround yourself with books that are inspiring and read for at least half an hour. Collect inspirational quotes and write them in small post it’s and place them where you can see them often.

Use your commute time effectively. You can read or listen to inspirational audio books while you are travelling to and from work. You can also listen to music. Music helps you to relax and reduce stress levels in the body.

Keep a journal. Write at least for 15 minutes the important events of the day. The journal is not a diary. It is your dialogue with yourself where you evaluate what and why of the day’s events.
