ABOUT LEENA KETKAR

Ms.Leena Ketkar is one of the senior-most disciples of Guru Smt. Shamatai Bhate, the distinguished Kathak exponent from Pune, Maharashtra, India.

Having topped the Master's Degree from Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune, Leena has carved out a defining position as an accomplished dancer.

She has been running her own dance institute for classical kathak, Mudra Kathak Nrityalaya, & through a combination of dedication, technical expertise and undying passion, she has mentored many students. She has also been teaching the students in Germany & USA for last few years.

The winner of the prestigious Pt. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar Award, Leena has consistently pushed the boundaries of creativity and explored a range of choreographies, right from Tarana Maalika and the presentation of a story, Lacchi ani Mor to transliterating poems from Marathi literature through the medium of dance.

She has now volunteered for the Urja Community to moderate a workshop about the positive effects of dance in our lives and will also take you through a fun activity of learning a few basic kathak steps.

Urja means “energy, strength or vigor” in Sanskrit and we @Urja believe that women are already born with this energy to achieve the impossible. But sometimes integrating into a new country or new job or adjusting to the new changes in life might sometimes diminish our potential and we feel lost. Urja is a non-profit volunteer meet-up group that will provide a platform for women to express freely without being judged and to reignite the Urja within them.
