Consulate General of India, Hamburg in collaboration with Madhubanti Sarkar, Lyon (France) is organizing a Facebook Live Indian Classical and Semi-Classical Singing (Hindustani style) Session on Tuesday, 19th May 2020 at 18:00 hrs.

Madhubanti Sarkar hails from a musical family of Calcutta in India. Her initial training in North Indian Classical singing (Hindustani style) started under her father, Dr Goutam Kumar Sarkar, who was a senior disciple of the Indian music maestro Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh. Holder of a Sangeet Visharad diploma from Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapith, Lucknow, Madhubanti has received training in Indian pure classical vocal genre (Kheyal) from Sri Santanu Bandyopadhyay of Bishnupur Gharana. Thereafter, Madhubanti came under the titulage of Srimati Dalia Raut, a renowned figure from the Benaras Gharana and one of the senior disciples of Vidushi Girija Devi. Madhubanti has topped in several prestigious music competitions such as the ones organised by Doverlane Music Conference and the West Bengal State Music Academy. Madhubanti has specialized in pure classical as well as in different genres of semi-classical vocal music such as Thumri, Dadra, Kajri, Bhajan.

Based in Lyon in France, she is a regular performer in Europe and has performed in numerous concerts in France, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Her performance was highly acclaimed by more than 3000 people gathered at the Indian community reception organized on the occasion of the Indian Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi’s visit to Paris in 2015. In 2019 Madhubanti participated in one of world’s biggest international music festival, Festival Mawazine held in Rabat, Morocco.

Madhubanti has sang for several albums including Voyages et rencontres en Inde ([Muret]: Association internationale Enfance et découvertes,2006) and La musique indienne: la danse du démon (Gallimard, 2010). Her first solo music album “Shruti Sringar” was released by Kolkata’s renowned music company, Bihaan Music in 2016.

On 19th May 2020 at 18:00 hrs, Madhubanti Sarkar will perform Indian pure classical and different genres of semi-classical music.
